Aims

The aim of the course is to cover the basic requirements of life support in a general dental practice and to give all participants the opportunity to practice basic life support 

Objectives

The objectives of the course are to cover

the ABC approach to recognising ‘at risk’ or critically ill patients. 

Initiate treatment of medical emergencies including asthma, anaphylaxis, cardiac

emergencies, epilepsy, hypoglycaemia and syncope. 

Identify airway obstructions and demonstrate the insertion of simple airway adjuncts.

Care for the unconscious patient. Safely administer oxygen. 

Carry out basic life support, both adult and paediatric. 

Participate in simulated medical emergencies and resuscitation.
