DescriptionAlex Adams (Specialty Doctor, Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital) will be joining us 'virtually' to discuss the importance of taking a good medical history. This evening will include discussion on managing patients taking anticoagulants, anti platelet medication, bisphosphonates, chemo/radiotherapy and steroids. Alex will refer to current guidelines to ensure we are managing are patients appropriately in primary care - and which patients we should consider referring.

This course is suitable for all members of the dental team.  PVLE colleagues are very welcome.

Aims

To increase confidence in understanding a patients medical history and current relevant guidelines.

Objectives

Following the course, delegates will:

1. Discuss important general medical issues relevant to dental treatment to dental treatment, including steroids and chemo/radiotherapy

2. Contextualise osteonecrosis risk for patients taking bisphosphonate or antiresoptive medications

3. Understand the role of anticoagulant and anti platelet agents and their implications for dental patients

4. Determine which cases may be treated in dental practice or are best referred
