Aims

The aim of this course is to introduce participants to environmental sustainability in relation to dentistry, so that they will be able to identify opportunities to decarbonise their current practice.

Objectives

To discuss the urgent need to transform current practice in dentistry

To describe opportunities to make dentistry more sustainable through patient and staff travel, procurement and waste management, energy use and disease prevention

To understand how to support staff and patients to change their behaviour to be more sustainable

To use audit tools and metrics to measure environmental impact

Learning outcomes

On completion of this course participants will have a robust understanding of the impact of dentistry on the climate and ecological crises. They will have the tools to transform their own working practices to become more sustainable, and to encourage the staff and patients around them to adopt meaningful change.
