Aims | Providing fundamental knowledge and understanding for simple reproducible endodontic diagnosis, assessment and treatment in general practice. Providing hands-on experience with different types of rotary instruments and hand filing techniques. |
Objectives | S – understand how to diagnose odontogenic pain and assess endodontic prognosis of a tooth. Know how to carry out quadrant rubber dam isolation on a model. Understand the principles of mechanical preparation, irrigation and obturation. Being able to carry out simple primary treatment with rotary instruments on a 3D printed tooth. Being able to obturate a simple 3D printed tooth with cold lateral compaction. Understand the importance of the restorative aspect of an endodontically treated tooth. Being able to restore a tooth with a composite core predictably. M – We will be able to observe them complete rubber dam placement on models, observe their preparations on 3D printed teeth and feedback in real time, have a Q&A style seminar at the end of the day to discuss the various aspects of treatment and clinical practice. By the end of the day they will be able to place rubber dam on a model and have prepared, obturated and restored 2 different 3D printed plastic teeth. A – This day has been run before with FDs and DCTs and the target of the hands-on exercises is achievable. They will have the time to complete the tasks set and will be given extra help to complete them as necessary. R – relevant to clinical practice and every day practice T – DCTs will have sufficient time during the day to carry out supervised hands-on exercises, ask and discuss any questions at the end of the day, have access to us following the teaching via e-mail to discuss cases or help or to come and shadow us in practice in person. |
Learning outcomes | Diagnose and plan the treatment required in regards to endodontics. They will understand the prognosis of endodontically treated teeth. Be able to place rubber dam on several teeth and carry out simple endodontic treatment with rotary instruments. |
