Aims

The aim of this one day workshop is to

define basic nutrition principals

Outline nutritional biochemistry relevant to chronic inflammation with a focus on the periodontal tissues

Objectives

Explore the practical application of clinical nutrition relevant to oral health

Identify dietary habits that have an effect on chronic inflammation

Examine carbohydrate and protein intake relative to oral health and chronic inflation

Demonstrate an understanding of the role of fatty acid`s and vitamin D in inflammatory bone loss

Identify the resolution of chronic inflammation and describe the influence of oral and gut micro biome in both oral and systemic health

Define marginal deficiency and physical observation techniques

Learning outcomes
  • Understand the principals of a healthy diet especially related to oral health and its links with systemic health
  • Identify dietary practices that exacerbate  chronic inflammation
  • Provide clear evidence based dietary advice  with respect to chronic inflammation with a focus on the periodontal tissues
