Description | Patients who present with cardiac issues requiring dental treatment or a preoperative dental check can present challenges in understanding their implications for the oral healthcare team. Louise Hopper, Specialist in Special Care Dentistry and Frances Cantin, Adult Congenital Heart Disease Nurse, will demystify some of the conditions we come across in primary care dentistry. They will explain why prevention and stabilisation is key, how to manage patients safely, an overview of current guidance, appropriate people to seek advice from and when and how to refer to specialist dental services. | ||

Objectives | By the end of this webinar participants should: 1. Recognise cardiac conditions that affect dental management such as heart murmurs, hole in the heart, heart surgery, MIs, congenital and non-congenital conditions, medication. 2. Understand cardiologist letters as they apply to dental care 3. Recognise how these conditions can affect dental management 4. Explain why patients may need to be seen pre and post operatively 5. Identify where to get advice on cardiac conditions and patient management 6. Have an overview of current guidance and resources on the dental management of cardiac patients. 7.
