DescriptionThis course covers the aetiology and management of all types of tooth wear, from diagnosis and prevention through monitoring and management. Techniques for intervention use the latest range of adhesive aesthetic materials as well as traditional methods. Teaching covers the management of sensitivity, aesthetics and function as well as occlusal change in vertical and horizontal dimensions. Splint therapy is discussed. This course is in the popular blended learning format with 3 hrs of webinar and coursebook sent to delegates a month in advance of the face to face day. The face to face day will consolidate and build on the resources already supplied and give an opportunity to try some of the techniques including tooth build-ups and treatment of a severe case on models. This course builds on existing knowledge and is an opportunity to hear about further training opportunities delivered by Prof. Millar and Dr Hussain at KCL.

Registration will be at 9.00 and the course will start at 9.30 am.

Please note this is a table top course and not held in a clinical skills lab.

This course will be repeated in November 2023 in Bristol and is similar to the course held in Dorset in 2022.

This is a short blended course with:


(a) 3 hours of pre-course webinars (sent out approximatley 4 weeks in advance)

(b) 6 hours of hands-on table top training 

(c) 3 hours of course notes and reflection.

Delegates will receive 12 hours of CPD after attending the hands-on day

The webinars and notes should be completed in advance of the hands on day as this will cover additional information.

Aims

The aim of this course is to provide  a deeper understanding of the causes, intervention options and management of tooth wear.


Objectives

By the end of this course participants should be able to describe:

  1. Identify a tooth wear diagnosis
  2. Describe management options from monitoring and prevention to intervention.
  3. Demonstrate how to intervene using contemporary material to replace missing tissue and correct occlusal problems due to too surface loss, restoring function and aesthetics while protecting the teeth.
  4. Assess when splints are appropriate in the management of tooth wear.
Learning outcomes

By the end of this course, participants will:

Be able to assess tooth wear, design a prevention strategy and recognise when to change the occlusion when restoring a tooth wear case including how and when to use the Dahl principle and when not to use it.
