Subject | Treatment planning |
Description | This is a course for Foundation Dentists The morning will be spent with Tim O'Brien covering treatment planning that involves implants. An area that is becoming ever more common and some of your practices are providing. Tim will also be giving valuable advice about your forthcoming case presentaions. In the afternoon, Dick Birkin will be hosting a session looking at what to expect of an associate contract, a little revision on some of the NHS regs loopholes and talking abut the BDA, your professional organisation. |
Additional information | Tim is a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry; he teaches on the Restorative MSc course at Peninsula Dental School and is an expert witness for clients at the GDC. Tim has a mountain of knowledge and clinical skill. He will take the opportunity to help us prepare for our compulsory case presentations in a couple of months time. He will help us make logical steps from diagnoses to our treatment planning of complex cases. He will explain how to advise patients about implants, risks and benefits and how to refer, including the medico legal aspects. We will learn how to care for and maintain implants for patients that have had them placed. There will be practical aspects to this course and it is recommended that you bring your possible case presentation cases with you and also any complex planning issues you may have. Notes, study models, photos and radiographs are essential. You may bring information on a coded memory stick. Dick has a wealth of experience and knowledge from working with dentists at the BDA as a legal advisor. He will go through the steps you should take in reviewing any associate agreement before signing on the dotted line. This session will be relevant for everyone, regardless of whether you intend to work in practice immediately, as some common issues relating to job contracts will be covered. This session is normally covered during a visit to BDA HQ in London, so we are very lucky to have Richard coming down to save us all that travelling!!! After the session you should be feeling much more confident when reviewing an associate agreement, or indeed any other job contract. You will also be armed with advice as to who might be best suited to help you..... Dick will also do a revision of those grey areas that tax us with our understanding of NHS regulations and help us not to worry so much about patient complaints. This is usually a very interesting timely session. |
