This course aims to explain who and what is eligible for treatment on the NHS and the referral criteria and pathway will be explained. Other orthodontic options will also be covered so we can better inform our patients to help with decision making for the range of treatment now available to them.

Aims

The aim of this course is to provide an overview of the orthodontic referral pathway and an update of the types of orthodontic cases that could be referred for a second opinion.


Objectives

By the end of this evening delegates should

· understand the orthodontic referral process & be able to refer appropriately

· be able to apply IOTN

· be able to evaluate which patients may benefit from interceptive orthodontics

· appreciate what orthodontic options are available for all patients

· have an insight into how an orthodontist assesses a patient’s developing occlusion

Learning outcomes

This session is intended to create an understanding of the orthodontic referral pathway, assessment of the child patient and the types of orthodontic cases that could be referred.
