DescriptionThis is a day-long update for dentists, hygenists and therapists covering oral infections, white patches, pre-cancer and cancer and their treatmemnt. It will also cover dry mouth, burning mouth, oral allergies & altered taste. The course will be given by Caroline Pankhurst and Richard Cook from the Guys/Kings College (London) team. Caroline gave a blistering session last year on infection control and the Oral Medicine course promises to be just as exciting!

Aims

To have the opportunity to revise and discuss the role of the GDP in the management of oral medical conditions including oral cancer

Objectives

· Be able to recognise early lesions of oral cancer & precancer

· Know the clinical presentation of oral lichen planus & recurrent oral ulceration & understand both their management and the scientific basis of special investigations

· Be able to recognise the symptoms & understand the tests used to diagnose common oral infections and their treatment & management options

· Highlight the clinical presentations, causes and management of a dry mouth, burning mouth, oral allergies & altered taste

Learning outcomes

1. Know what dentists can do towards primary prevention of oral cancer

2. Be able to manage clinical oral medicine problems in primary care with assistance from a specialist
