DescriptionThis course is a great opportunity for dentists wishing to extend their Minor Oral Surgery skills gain hands on practice using anatomical models. Pippa and Simon will join a small group (no more than twelve dentists) to cover common complications including removal of apices, closure of an oral antral communication, pain, infection and management of haemorrhage. This is an interactive day, with lots of time for questions and discussion.
Additional information

This course is suitable for dentists who are already comfortable with basic minor oral surgery and wish to extend their skills.  Please check that you are comfortable with the learning objectives covered in Foundations of Minor Oral Surgery for GDPs (9th March, 20th April, also in Exeter) before booking on this course. This might be a more suitable session for you if you are looking to gain basic oral surgery skills.

Aims

An interactive course to discuss the common complications arising from Oral Surgery including patient assessment, management and hands on training to practice treatment techniques on models.

Objectives

1. To outline the scope of surgery and professional responsibilities in General Dental Practice

2. To discuss the assessment and management of complications including pain, infection, haemorrhage and antral involvement

3. To practice surgical skills including removal of apices and closure of an oral astral communication on surgical models

4. To discuss examples of clinical cases and radiographs

Learning outcomes

On completion of this course, participants will:

1. Recognise your personal scope of practice and professional responsibilities

2. Diagnose and manage common complications arising in practice including pain, infection, haemorrhage and antral involvement

3. Demonstrate the surgical techniques for the evaluation of root apices on an anatomical model

4. Perform the closure of an oral antral communication on a simulated model
