Aims

To give an overview of the types of impaction of lower third molars and their suitability for removal in primary care.

To practise surgical removal of an impacted tooth, as well as suturing of the flap.

Objectives

to be aware of the indications and contra-indications for the removal of lower third molars.

to appreciate the degree of difficulty of different types of impaction.

to have practised flap design and bone removal for lower third molar removal.

Learning outcomes

to be confident in assessment of lower third molars and which ones can be treated in primary care.
