Criteria of students entering the course:-

-To be a registered DCP with the GDC.

-In current employment (dental) with written support of his/her employer.

-Professional Indenity Insurance/Cover.

-Evidence of up to date CPD in Medical Emergencies/BLS.

*Please bring supporting documents for all of the above on the course day.

*Not all participants will have undertaken a Dental Nurse training course which has equivalence to NVQ 3. However it is felt that all students will have the ability to engage in the level of work required to successfully complete this course.

Aims

This course will provide the practical and theoretical knowledge and skills needed in order for DCP's to competently take impressions for patients to the prescription of a Dentist.

Objectives

Students will be able to:

  1. Check patients medical history and consent form.
  2. Check prescriptions for patient for impression request.
  3. Prepare the surgery and patient for impression taking and wax bite registration.
  4. Select and prepare materials to be used for the taking of dental impressions.
  5. Use a safe technique to take accurate impressions of the patient jaws and register the bite to an appropriate standard.
  6. Be able to manage any complications that might occur during the procedure.
  7. Ensure continunity of care for the patients.
Learning outcomes

On completion of the course delegates will be able to:

  1. Check patients medical history and consent form and to check prescriptions for patient for impression request.
  2. Be able to prepare the surgery and patient for impression taking and wax bite registration, and select and prepare materials for the impressions.
  3. Use a safe technique to take accurate impressions of the patient jaws and register the bite to an appropriate standard.
  4. Be able to manage any complications that might occur during the procedure and ensure continunity of care for the patients.
  5. The delegate will understand how to complete the logbook in practice.
