Description | An interactive day for DCP's the morning session on "Law & Ethics" followed by an afternoon on "Cross Infection Control" covering two core subjects. Delivered by Sonia Jones RDH CFET, Sonia practices as a Dental Hygienist in Torquay, she also teaches & lectures across the country for Dental Post Graduate Deaneries, private companies and delivers core subjects in general practice, she is also an examiner for the NEBDN and is NCFE level 3 trained to deliver BLS & AED training. | ||

Aims | ‘Law and Ethics, are you up to Standard?’ To update the dental team in legal and ethical issues and documentation within the provision of dental care.
‘Oral Manifestations of Infectious Diseases – Why Cross Infection Control Is Paramount’ To understand how infectious diseases can present with, or as oral manifestations and why cross infection control within the clinical environment is paramount to preventing such infections. | ||
Objectives | ‘Law and Ethics, are you up to Standard?’ • Explain the difference between legal and ethical issues • Explain what the GDC is and what it does • Keep extensive records for each patient • Discuss the 3C’s, Confidentiality, Consent and Complaints • Update any policies/documents • Understand the importance of the GDC standards • Relate these standards to possible cases up before the GDC
‘Oral Manifestations of Infectious Diseases – Why Cross Infection Control Is Paramount’ • Apply universal cross infection control procedures in every day practice according to the HTM01-05 document. • Describe the differences between bacteria, viruses and fungi • Differentiate between the diseases caused by the different micro organisms • Recall the clinical features/oral manifestations that these diseases cause | ||
Learning outcomes | ‘Law and Ethics, are you up to Standard?' Delegates will have had the chance to work with colleagues to update their knowledge on legal and ethical issues that concern their practice of dentistry and their private lives. They will have had chance to apply the GDC standards to group discussions and scenarios that may affect the way they practice.
‘Oral Manifestations of Infectious Diseases – Why Cross Infection Control Is Paramount’ Delegates will have worked together to gain a refreshed knowledge of the HTM01-05 document and understand how this information correlates to everyday practice to protect patients and staff from passing infectious diseases to one another. | ||
