Phil qualified from Kings in 1978, joined the RAF and qualified in periodontology and ran the RAF school of dental hygiene. He has sinced worked in specialist practices and lectures throughout the UK. Day 1 covers diagnosing periodontal diseases, treatment planning, contemporary methods of non-surgical therapy etc.... Day 2 covers surgical techniques, practical experience on perio models, surgical crown lengthening, surgical grafting, and simple surgical techniques.

Aims

Day 1 will update participants on effective and medicolegally sound approaches to both the diagnosis and treatment of periodontal disease, concentrating on non-surgical disease management.

Day 2 will look at the indications and methods for the surgical management of disease and will also cover periodontal surgical procedures which may be used for non-diseased patients.

Objectives
  1. To be able to diagnose periodontal diseases accurately and effectively.
  2. To plan appropriate treatment approaches.
  3. To appreciate the role of self care in periodontal management.
  4. To understand contemporary methods of non-surgical therapy.
  5. To understand the relevance of antimicrobials in therapy.

Day 2

  1. To appreciate the indications & contraindications for surgical periodontal therapy.
  2. To understand the principles of periodontal surgical technique.
  3. To practice simple surgical techniques.
  4. To appreciate the indications for surgical crown lengthening & surgical grafting.
