SubjectMinor oral surgery
DescriptionThis course is a great opportunity to update Oral Surgery techniques. We will be exploring basic surgical instruments, preoperative assessment, NICE Guidelines and common surgical complications. There will be plenty of opportunity for discussion and a practical session using pig skin to practice flap design and suturing.

Aims
  • To review the basic instrumentation recommended to undertake oral surgery procedures
  • To review the indications for the extraction of third molar teeth
  • To discuss surgical techniques and clinical cases
  • To discuss the identification and management of common emergencies in oral surgery
Objectives

By the end of the study day, the participants will be able to:

  • Assess and develop treatment plans for patients requiring oral surgery procedures
  • Name at least 10 instruments required to undertake oral surgery and describe their uses
  • Be familiar with the NICE guidelines for the extraction of third molar teeth
  • Describe and undertake three basic suturing techniques
