2) To understand the appropriate use of diagnostic aids, alternate methods for cavity preparation and caries removal.

3) To understand the importance and relevance of fluoride, oral hygiene and diet in caries prevention and how to optimise them.

4) To understand why patients with dry mouth are more vulnerable to dental caries, periodontal disease and other dental problems and how to care for them.

5) To realise the importance of general health guidelines in relation to dental dietary advise.

6) To realise the importance of communication with the patient including verbal and written.
