Aims

To update all members of the dental team who are involved in the prevention and treatment of periodontal disease, and how a team approach could be beneficial.

Objectives

By the end of the course participants should be able to:

  • List the current classification of periodontal disease
  • Describe the rationale for non-surgical periodontal therapy
  • Be aware of the different adjunctive treatments including antibiotics, and when they are needed
  • Understand the importance of, and impact of supportive periodontal therapy
  • Understand potential treatment options for improving aesthetics in the periodontally compromised patient
