Aims

The purpose of the lecture presentation will be to discuss the mode of action, limitations and potential unwanted effects of local anaesthetic solutions

Objectives
  • To comprehensively review the literature as it currently stands on local anaesthetic solutions available in the UK including the chemical and neuropathic nerve injuries that are attributed to our use of local anaesthetics
  •  To review our current knowledge of acute pulpal inflammation and how this impacts on clinical management. Can we predict those patients who will experience post endodontic treatment pain?
  • The management of patients with acute pulpal inflammation will be discussed including strategies for the management of patients with acute pulpitis and techniques of local anaesthetic delivery that maximise effectiveness while minimizing risk of injury
  • The role of sedation will be discussed in patients undergoing endodontic treatment.
