To provide an update in developments in Oral Surgery and prevention and related nerve injuries.

Objectives

Minimising nerve injuries:

  • Recognise and minimise risk to the trigeminal nerve when undertaking LA, extractions, endo, implants and third molar surgery
  • Understand the importance of prevention of nerve injury and its impact on those patients affected
  • Improve patient consent in relation to trigeminal nerve injuries
  • Develop a better strategy for assessment in identifying patients at high risk
  • Understand when to refer and/or treat

Managing trigeminal nerve injuries:

  • Improve patient consent in relation to trigeminal nerve injuries
  • Be able to identify patients with neuropathic pain and nerve injury
  • Know when urgent treatment is required for nerve injuries
  • Understand when to refer and/or treat
