DescriptionAn interactive workshop based study day covering the clinical skills detailed in the Foundation Curriculum.
Additional information

The seven workshops will enable doctors to learn and demonstrate learning through peer and faculty assessment at each of the six workshops. You will be provided with a work manual with pre-reading, detailed one-to-one tuition on the day, assessment by skilled practitioners and a certificate of attendance.

You must attend one of the ten days between UH Bristol, NBT and Bath. Places are restricted to 40 and early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment.

We will endeavour to accommodate dietary requirements, however, catering suppliers vary between venues so this cannot be guaranteed. If you have particular dietary requirements, food allergies or intolerances, please contact the course organiser.

Aims

An opportunity for foundation year 2 Doctors to learn new, or practice existing, practical procedures that are commonly seen in a range of different specialities. The practical procedures include:

  • Suturing
  • Seldinger chest drain and pleural aspiration
  • Non-invasive ventilation
  • Paracentesis
  • Lumbar Puncture
  • Joint aspiration
  • Advanced airway management
Objectives

Learning objectives (for each procedure):

  1. Understand the indications for each practical procedure
  2. List the contraindications for each procedure
  3. List the complications of each procedure, and combining this with the benefits understand how to consent a patient
  4. Recall the steps involved in each procedure
  5. Apply these steps on models to perform the procedure
