Aims

A day aimed at those who may have to deal with sick children, such as in A&E or primary care, in a mixture of lectures and pre-recorded sim.

Content to include updates and guidelines on:

  • Assessment and recognition of seriously ill child
  • Surgical assessment in Paediatrics
  • Safeguard
  • Seizures
  • Febrile Child
  • Respiratory
  • Simulation
Objectives

To introduce trainees to various topics in Paediatrics they may encounter during their career

Lectures

Recognise common presentations in an unwell child and form a differential of common causes and management

Recognise what is normal in children and when to escalate

How to spot sinister injuries

Learning outcomes
  • Understand the structured ABCDE approach that facilitates rapid recognition of seriously ill children;
  • provide appropriate initial treatment interventions to prevent cardiorespiratory arrest;
  • treat children in respiratory or cardiorespiratory arrest until the arrival of a resuscitation team or more experienced assistance;
  • Promote active membership of a paediatric resuscitation team.
