Aims

The course will aim to support foundation doctors in their rotations by providing them with an opportunity to develop psychiatric skills which they can apply to practice across a variety of settings including GP, ED and ward SHO jobs.

Objectives

· Describe the components of a mental health history and mental state examination

· Use effective strategies to delineate psychiatric risk

· Develop a toolkit for communicating with patients with mental health problems including active listening and de-escalation techniques

· Apply relevant medico-legal frameworks to a variety of scenarios in different healthcare settings

· Value the challenges that patients with chronic mental health problems who present to healthcare face

Develop skills for managing own psychological well-being in stressful working conditions
