Aims

Our training day includes several lectures on common acute presentations affecting a geriatric population – with further emphasis on communication skills and cases illustrating use of the mental capacity act and power of attorney. We also plan to explore the possible outcomes of the older sick patient – including the role of intensive and end of life care – with sessions in the afternoon allowing for small group discussion on these topics.

Objectives
  1. To understand common acute presentations affecting a geriatric population including frailty, stroke and collapse
  2. To discuss appropriate communication skills with geriatric patients
  3. To explore the mental capacity act and power of attorney.
