Aims

A day aimed at those who may have to deal with sick children, such as in A&E or primary care, in a mixture of lectures and simulation.

Content to include updates and guidelines on:

  • Assessment and recognition of seriously ill child and neonate
  • Safeguarding
  • Seizures
  • Febrile Child
  • Respiratory
  • Trauma
Objectives

To introduce trainees to various topics in Paediatrics they may encounter during their career, including:

  • Recognise common presentations in an unwell child and form a differential of common causes and management
  • Recognise what is normal in children and when to escalate
  • How to spot sinister injuries
  • Understand the structured ABCDE approach that facilitates rapid recognition of seriously ill children
  • Provide appropriate initial treatment interventions to prevent cardiorespiratory arrest
  • Treat children in respiratory or cardiorespiratory arrest until the arrival of a resuscitation team or more experienced assistance
  • Promote active membership of a paediatric resuscitation team
