Lecturer profileChris was diagnosed in 2011 with throat cancer. His treatment included radiotherapy, chemotherapy, feeding tube, two neck dissections and lots of recovery. In 2012, he started the Swallows Head & Neck Support Group (now full charity status), which helped him concentrate on helping others and building his belief and confidence back again. Chris wants to ensure no one must live with this disease alone. His aim is to help patients and caregivers’ live life, with and beyond cancer, and improve quality of life. The charity now helps patients and caregivers throughout the UK and has links with many countries around the world. In 2017, he was recognised by Queen Elizabeth II with the Queens Award for Voluntary Service.

She was awarded Hygienist of the year in 2015 at the Dental awards and was the winner of the Outstanding Team member in 2014. She has given presentations on behalf of the ADI, BSP, BSDHT, Oral health conference amongst others. She is passionate about dental professionals incorporating smoking cessation as part of their day to day work

Lecturer profileDawn is a mental health and wellbeing consultant, she founded her own company “We Do Wellbeing” in 2015. She is a consultant, tutor and Fellow member of the Royal Society for Public Health, a Mental Health First Aid Trainer and former National Trainer for MHFA England and has worked on developing mental health and wellbeing training programmes nationally and internationally.

Lecturer profileEmma was awarded a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Queen’s University, Belfast.

She worked in clinical practice in General, Hospital and Community Dental Services in the UK and Ireland with a focus on Paediatric and Special Care Dentistry. Emma was awarded a Masters in Dental Public Health (Distinction) from University of London. Registered specialist in Dental Public Health. Emma completed a PhD at the University of Manchester exploring caries development from childhood to adolescence. After a period working in Scotland, Emma now returns to where she competed her specialist training and works as Consultant in Dental Public Health in Greater Manchester.
