Qualified in 1991, worked in practice and CDS for 8 years. Returned to the university as a lecturer in primary dental care. After gaining her PhD,entered specialist dental public health training. Currently a part-time Consultant Dental Public Health for Public Health England NW and part-time Senior Lecturer Liverpool University. Prior to becoming a Consultant had an active role in the BDA local and national structure. Currently Chair of BASCD Consultant Dental Public Health Group. Spare time spent on the side line of her boys sports pitches.

I retired as Lead Consultant in dental public health, Public Health England (North West) is September 2020 following a career in Dental Public Health and the Community Dental Service
During the last few years of my professional career in dentistry, projects included leading on the dementia friendly dentistry programme, the establishment of the ‘Starting Well programme’ with primary dental care and development of the ‘Mouth care matters in the community’ programme for care homes as well as supporting the redesign of oral surgery services and development of managed clinical networks in Cheshire and Merseyside. The dementia programme was rolled out across the north west and has adopted in many other areas nationally - it was recognised nationally by the Alzheimer’s Society being awarded the partnership award in 2016.
I have also worked as a professional coach and mentor in the national Public Health England coaching network.
Since retiring I have taken up a role as a Trustee /Director for a Cheshire based charity which aims to reduce isolation and loneliness in older people, and I am also an active volunteer with Healthwatch Cheshire
Lecturer nameDr Clare Ledingham Specialist in Peadiatric Dentistry
Lecturer profileDr Ledingham qualified from Bristol Dental School and completed her Masters in Paediatric Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Hospital and her PhD at Liverpool University Dental School. She has worked mainly in the Community Dental Service, with spells in hospital and academic dentistry, and is now Specialist Lead for Children’s Dentistry in the CDS in Liverpool, now part of Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust.

Dr Ledingham is the inaugural Chair of the Cheshire and Merseyside Paediatric Dentistry Managed Clinical Network. Clare is also the Honorary National Secretary of the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry and was part of the NHS England steering group for the development of the Commissioning Standard for Paediatric Dentistry. She also a represents BSPD on the PHE Child Oral Health Improvement Programme Board.
