Aims | Aims This course aims to provide all learners with confirmation of the importance of early detection of mouth cancer and identify the differential diagnosis of oral cancer. Be able to perform referral for specialist opinion, educate patients and manage dental care after diagnosis. | ||
Objectives | Objectives This course will enable learners to: Demonstrate the importance of routine comprehensive extra and intra-oral examination and the use of screening adjuncts and technologies. Outline the causes of, and risk factors associated with mouth cancer. Critique the Signs, Symptoms and types of oral cancer and the conditions that present in the mouth and perioral tissues. Implement the role that team members play in the early detection of mouth cancer. Outline the difference between benign and malignant oral tumours. Catorgorise the correct referral strategy for specialist opinion. Outline the various mouth cancer treatments. Describe the importance and approaches to patient education. Understand the importance of managing the dental fitness of mouth cancer patients. | ||
Learning outcomes | Learning Outcomes After completion of the course, the learner will be able to perform: The routine screening for mouth cancer. Early cancer detection and know the difference between benign and malignant oral tumours. Appropriate referral of patients to specialists, maintain the dental fitness of mouth cancer patients and know approaches to patient education | ||
