SubjectRadiography Interpretation
DescriptionThe course will be primarily interactive in nature focusing on practical advice designed to aid delegates in the production of high-quality radiographic images. The delegates will benefit from small group teaching and have the unique opportunity to provide there own radiograph images which allows areas of difficulty or common positioning errors to technique to be troubleshooted . The tailored personalised approach of the course allows the group of delegates to gain valuable insight into there own everyday practice.

The face to face course will be held at Ordnance Survey Explorer House Adanac Drive Southampton SO16 0AS.

Registration will be from 09:15 with the educational programme starting promptly at 09:30. We aim to finish at 16:30.

Speaker Barbara Lamb 

Barbara Lamb qualified as a general radiographer in 1974 and, since then, has worked exclusively as a specialised radiographer in the dental field. From 1974 to 1979 Barbara was employed in Glasgow Dental Hospital as a radiographer. She then worked as a single handed radiographer in dental practice from 1982 to 1998 as well as providing radiography support to a number of dental research projects before returning to work at Glasgow Dental Hospital from 1998 to 2008. Since becoming self-employed in 2008, Barbara has specialised in delivering CPD on all aspects of IRMER, travelling all over the UK giving practical based workshops and lectures as well as delivering courses which qualify dental nurses to take radiographs. Barbara also provides dental team "in practice training" and IRMER courses which allows the sessions to be tailored to the specific circumstances of individual practices. All courses are tailored to the needs of dentists, dental hygienists, therapists, and dental nurses working in general dental practice, community dental services and hospital dentistry settings. Barbara has presented the undergraduate dental radiography.

Aims

The aim of the course is to comply with GDC requirements and provide recommended CPD for the participants. This is a practical approach to technique and quality assurance in dental radiography.

It will be primarily interactive in nature focusing on practical advice designed to aid delegates in the production of high-quality radiographic images.

The tailored personalised approach of the course aims the delegates to gave valuable insight into there own everyday practice.

Objectives

Discussion and phantom head positioning will include hints on patient positioning, and the use of appropriate film holders.

The delegates will be asked to provide their own radiographs to allow areas of difficulty to be recognized and addressed.

Use and maintenance of laser scanning and film developing systems (if needed) will be covered, including methods of quality assurance and image quality.

Learning outcomes

Discuss their responsibilities under current IRMER17 legislation with clarification of the regulations as they relate to dental practice.

Identify difficult areas in the mouth for film positioning and how to overcome these especially with digital film holders.

Recognize common faults of positioning, and ways by which these can be prevented.

Rate radiographs in terms of diagnostic value, for the purposes of radiographic audit

Understand the processes for taking and reporting test films

Discuss the importance of Radiological Safety and name the ways in which this can be ensured.
