Aims | To reduce the occurrence of infectious diseases in the dental surgery. 1. To explain the stages of the decontamination process as identified in the HTM 01-05 guidance document. 2. To examine the HTM 01-05 guidance document and discuss how key environmental legislation applies to dentistry. 3. To discuss infection risk reduction. 4. To discuss the safe management of healthcare waste in the dental section as specified in the HTM 01-07 guidance document. 5. To describe the control of Legionellae in the dental practice. |
Learning outcomes | 1. Describe and summarise key stages of the decontamination process, and implement effective infection control procedures to reduce risk of cross-infection. 2. Outline essential and best quality requirements of the HTM 01-05 guidelines, assess own practice level of compliance and identify areas of improvement . 3. Demonstrate recognition of effective measures to manage the risk of physical, chemical and microbiological contamination in the practice of dentistry. 4.
