DescriptionThis course is one of a number of courses designed to provide an introduction to primary NHS dental care, essential for dentists undertaking the educational /clinical support plan(ECSP) or undertaking the PLVE programme. This course is also suitable for other dentists who are new to NHS, Dentist, returning to NHS practice, and any dental professionals interested in learning more about the featured topics. It is designed to examine ethical behaviour including honesty, confidentiality, consent and the mental capacity act and review the standards expected by regulatory bodies.

Aims

To increase learners ability to manage risks related to dental law and ethics. To define the standards and inspection regimes of the regulatory bodies, CQC and G.D.C.

Objectives
  1. To examine the principles of ethical behaviour relevant to dentistry, including honesty, confidentiality, consent and the mental capacity act.
  2. To explain the role of the CQC and the G.D.C. in the dental sector.
  3. To examine the CQC‘s key line of enquiry, and the GDC standards.
Learning outcomes

By the end of the course the participants should be able to:

  • Describe and summarize key issues relating to conduct, performance and ethics in accordance with G.D.C. and CQC standards, including professionally relevant laws and ethical guidance.
  • Demonstrate ability in the decision-making process, so as to integrate ethical and professional accountability for consent, assessing capacity, confidentiality and duty of candour.
