Aims

1 To improve Dental nurse skills, to boost confidence in surgical dental procedures.

2 To provide training in the theory and practice for effective nursing in minor oral surgery for dental nurses, including care planning and surgical set-up.

3 To discuss the rationale behind pre-operative and post-operative care for patients undergoing oral surgical procedures.

4 To discuss basic oral anatomy and get familiar with surgical instruments and its purpose to play an integral role in the surgical procedure.

Learning outcomes

1. Clarify fundamental principles of care planning and patient management for safe and effective hard and soft tissue surgery, in general dental practice.

2 Reflect and carry out appropriate action to help Dentists involved in minor oral surgery, to improve outcome.

3 To be able to communicate with patients in an effective manner and give appropriate informative advice and reassurance.
