Aims

The aim of this course is to provide an update on Oral Health Education & Promotion in dental practice, so as contribute to overall health.

Objectives

1 Explain the perio-systemic link, and the oral implication of general diseases.

2 Identify behaviours and habits that impact oral health.

3 Review patient compliance with  health messages that are delivered in practice.

4 Discuss the latest research in healthy habit formation.

5 Demonstrate the practical application of facilitating patients with health habit formation, and the breaking of bad habits.

6 Describe current oral health messages given inpractice.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course , learners will be able to:

1 Describe the role of oral health in general wellbeing.

2 Identify determinant's of oral and general health.

3 Explain the impact of diet, oral hygiene, alcohol use, and smoking & vaping on oral health.

4 Appraise oral health improvement activities.

5 Deliver oral health advice that supports patients in healthy habit formation and oral health improvements.
