Current Professional Position Orthodontic Therapist

Benjamin has worked in dentistry for more than 20 years, starting from a receptionist before qualifying as a dental nurse. Moving onto dental hygiene and therapy working orthodontic practices, he then chose to continue with orthodontic training. He focused mainly on orthodontic provision for the last decade.

He is on the Invisalign Practice Education Board and has been a speaker for Dental monitoring. He has co-authored numerous articles on the future of Digital Dentistry.

Aims

With Direct Access examinations being introduced into NHS practice, undergraduate education did not teach Therapists and Hygienists in orthodontic examination.

The Chief Dental Officer has contacted the Integrated Care Boards to request acceptance of referrals directly from Dental Care Professionals.

Objectives

The speaker will:

Break down the Index of Orthodontic Treatment Needs

Demonstrate the differing severity of malocclusions

Discuss how and when to make an orthodontic referral

Learning outcomes

The participant will be able to:

Identify malocclusions and their severity

Define a patients IOTN score

Confidently assess a patient’s orthodontic needs and refer appropriately
