Lecturer profileJohn Darby is Postgraduate Dental Dean in Health Education England, Thames Valley and Wessex. He has a General Dental Practice background and has been involved with Dental Foundation Training for over 20 years, where has help TPD and Regional Advisor roles. He has an interest in postgraduate education gaining a Diploma in Medical and Dental Education and an MSc, focussing on the effectiveness of OSCE assessments. He is trained in practice appraisal and mentoring and has provided training on Clinical Governance. He is COPDEND Lead for Dental Apprenticeships chairing the Trailblazer groups who oversee the delivery of 6 Dental Care Professional apprenticeship programmes.

John spent over thirty years as a General Dental Practitioner in the NHS, owning a practice in Croydon, which he sold in 2009 to take up a position at the HEE KSS Deanery as Associate Dean for Primary Care, where he developed the Diploma in Clinical Dental Technology, awarded by FGDP(UK). He is a great supporter for the increased roles for Dental Care Professionals in the community, he is a past chairperson of the National Examining Board for Dental Nurses and Director of “Smile Seminars”, a dental team training company.
