| Lecturer profile | After qualify and completing VT Julie worked as an associate GDP for 6 years before taking a post in Community Dental Services in rural Argyll in Scotland in 2002. Since then she has worked across the full range of special care dentistry and has developed an interest in sedation which has culminated in a Competency in Advanced Sedation. Julie has been involved in undergraduate teaching in Restorative and Sedation at Glasgow and more recently Sedation & Special Care Dentistry at Guy’s where she worked as a Specialty Dentist. In her current role as a Senior Dental Officer in Berkshire she provides dental care to a wide range of people with additional needs.) |

| Lecturer profile | Katy Kerr BDS DDPH RCS (Eng) PGCertCE. Katy was a Senior Dental Officer with Berkshire Community Dental Service and has always had a special interest in quality in healthcare, helping to develop systems for clinical audit within the profession. Katy currently chairs the Dementia Friendly Dentistry Group. She is passionate about improving access for people with dementia to visit the dentist and is working to support the establishment of dementia friendly dental care environments. She was the project lead for the dementia awareness film, “The Appointment” now hosted on the national NHSE website as part of dementia training for all health professionals. In her role for NHSE WT&E, Katy works across Thames Valley and Wessex to provide training and workforce development opportunities for all members of the team. She has trained extensively about the impact of poor oral health for older people in residential and hospital settings, she was a member of the External Expert Advisory Group for the CQC report, Smiling Matters, on oral health in care homes and developed training resources for the Public Health England toolkit: Adult Oral Health in Care Homes, to address the findings in the report. Katy generated the content for the E-learning package, “Improving mouth care", on E-Learning for Health, and was part of the national training group that developed training resources to support the Starting Well programme for 0-5 year old children. |

| Lecturer profile | Josie lemon is a Senior Dental Officer in Berkshire and Buckinghamshire Community Dental Services and is on the Specialist List for Special Care Dentistry. Josie has worked in the CDS across the Thames Valley for 30 years and has a particular interest in Dental Epidemiology working for a period as Regional Dental Epidemiology Coordinator. As an SDO in Berkshire CDS she provides dental care in clinics and under sedation and general anaesthesia at a range of sites across Berkshire. She is also involved in planning and delivery of local post graduate courses with particular reference to Special Care Dentistry |

| Lecturer profile | Having worked in the Community Dental Service in Berkshire for 36 years Ian is about to drop off the perch into what he hopes will be a long and active retirement where he will have more time for cricket and travel rather than extractions and endless Trust meetings! He has worked across the range of special care dentistry and is currently working as a generalist SDO in West Berkshire Community Hospital Newbury, covers Paediatric and Special Needs GA sessions at the Royal Berkshire Hospital Reading and provides a full range of dental care to patients at Broadmoor Psychiatric Hospital in addition to his Head of Service administrative role. |
