Lecturer profileProfessor Richard Van Noort BSc. DPhil, DSc, FAD, FRSA is the Emeritus Professor of Dental Materials at School of Clinical Dentistry, University of Sheffield. He has extensive experience in biomaterials. With particular interest in the application of engineering principles to dentistry as a means of extablishing performance indicators for dental structures, he has worked extensively on the development of new dental glass-ceramics. his research into assessment of the biocompatibility of dental materials has embraced a study of the incidence of adverse reactions to dental materials in the UK and more recently the development of a 3D tissue engineered oral mucosal model for the laboratory assessment of adverse reactions to dental materials. He has published over 200 papers and has written two text books on Dental Materials. He was awarded the DSc by the University of Sheffield in 2008 for his contribution to dental materials and the John Tomes Medal for services to dentistry by the BDA in 2009.
