Prison Dentistry - managing oral health care in a prison environment

This next course in the series will provide an insight to the world of prison dentistry . It is open to all dentists dental nurses and therapists who currently work or would be interested in learning more about working in a secure unit or prison and explores the planning of the delivery of this care, some of the challenges and practical tips in delivering dental care.


This course is open to all dentists, dental nurses, hygienists and therapists with an interest in learning more about prison dentistry.

  1. Participants will have an understanding of the oral health needs of prisoners.
  2. Participants will have an opportunity to explore and an understanding of the challenges presented to the dental team when delivering care in a variety of secure environments.
  3. Participants will be familiar with the specific competencies outlined in the DwSI Prison dentistry framework – Environment; Clinical Leadership and Management; Communication
