  1. To understand the factors involved in determining the prognosis of periodontally-involved teeth.
  2. To appreciate the relative significance of plaque biofilm, subgingival calculus and cementum in root surface contamination.
  3. To understand the factors that affect the success and survival of implants in periodontally-susceptible patients.
  4. To appreciate the role of the patient in the control of the plaque biofilm.
