Aims
  1. To provide the knowledge and skills for provision of conscious sedation to appropriate patients with confidence and safety.
  2. The acquisition and understanding of core knowledge relevant to the practice of oral, intravenous (IV) and inhalational sedation in dentistry.
  3. To review the role of the dental team in:- - the assessment of adult patients who require conscious sedation. - administration of sedative agents - monitoring of sedated patients - to understand, recognise and manage sedation related complications - assessing the fitness for discharge of patients who have received IV sedation.
  4. To promote an awareness and understanding of the importance of :- - sedation in the management of anxious patients - communication skills in the management of patients requiring conscious sedation.
