DescriptionThis afternoon course for Induction Module 6 (Ionising Radiation) of the Oxford Dental Nurse Blended Learning Scheme (ODNBLS).
Additional informationThis 6 part induction programme (held along side the 6 modules of DNART) is for dental nurses who have less than 2 years experience as a DN and are unable to get a place on either a National Certificate or NVQ course. On completion of the Induction programme the DN will continue with the DN NET package consisting of 13 CD Rom/Internet based modules. There will also be an additional 10 tutorials to assist with DN NET. The course will prepare the DNs to sit the National Certificate exam in November 2008.

Aims
  1. Understand the basis principals of ionising radiation safety; know the uses of radiation in the dental environment.
  2. Know how to minimise risks to staff and patients when using radiation; understand the term ALARA and how to apply in practice; understand how this ALARA might not be achieved, if best practice is not observed.
  3. Understand and recognise common exposure faults; understand and recognise common processing faults.
  4. Know how to achive good quality assurance of radiographs.
  5. Understand the need for acurate record keeping in relation to patient radiographs.
