DescriptionThis morning course for Induction Module 5 (Working with Dentists and Patients) of the Dental Nurse Blended Learning Scheme (DENBLS).
Additional information[Induction Module 6 - Ionising Radiation is available in the afternoon]

This 6 part induction programme (held along side the 6 modules of DNART) is for dental nurses who have less than 2 years experience as a DN and are unable to get a place on either a National Certificate or NVQ course. On completion of the Induction programme the DN will continue with the DN NET package consisting of 13 CD Rom/Internet based modules. There will also be an additional 10 tutorials to assist with DN NET. The course will prepare the DNs to sit the National Certificate exam in November 2008.

Aims

  3. Understand the elements of basic chairside assisting, including safe practice; understand how to work with patients, include how and when to and when not, to offer advice.
  4. Understand the need for confidentiality in the dental practice and the ethical obligations of a dental nurse; understand diversity, equality and rights in relation to patients and their prescribed treatments; recognise a patient's right to choose.
  5. Know how to cope with difficult and agressive patients; understand the need to handle patients' complaints sensitively; understand your own rights and responsibilities in relation to your employment.
