DescriptionAdult basic life support includes CPR, management of choking, use of the pocket mask and bag valve mask and supplementary oxygen and scenario training. We also look at the contents of the emergency drug box and discuss causes and prevention of cardiac arrest including the ABCDE approach to assessment of a sick patient and common medical emergencies.
Additional informationOur team of training staff include resuscitation officers and exprienced clinical nurses all working within the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust, so all students will benefit from their clinical and educational backgrounds.

Aims
  1. Students will be able to recognise a cardiac arrest, call for help and perform competent caardiopulmonary resuscitation on a manikin according to the Resuscitation Council (UK) guidelines.
  2. Students will be familiarised with handling resuscitation equipment held in a dental surgery.
  3. Students will be able to assess a patient using the A - E approach.
