DescriptionThis evening is entirely devoted to Dental Nurses and Student Dental Nurses. These monthly meetings have been set up for Dental Nurses in the south region (Ox/Bucks/Berks/Hamps/I.O.W) to give Dental Nurses an ability to network and share ideas through open discussion, support their wellbeing plus be empowered to progress and further their career if they wish to do so. This will be delivered via MS Teams Webinar. There will be an hour's CPD in which our speaker Natalie Bradley discusses the concept of Neurodiversity and how this can influence a patient's experience of dental care. GDC Outcome A, B, C and D.
Additional information

Natalie is Consultant in Special Care Dentistry at Kings College Hospital and Clinical Director for Dentaid the Dental Charity. She holds a Masters in Special Care Dentistry from Kings College London. She has had a wide range of clinical experience working in general practice, community and hospital dental services and in 2018/19 completed a fellowship with the Office of the Chief Dental Officer. She is Chair of the BDA's Young Dentist Committee and a deputy chair of the Managed Clinical Network for Special Care Dentistry in London. Her blog 'A Tooth Germ' has reached over 1 million views.

Aims

To understand the concept of neurodiversity and how neurodevelopmental differences can influence a patient's experience of dental care, in line with NHS priorities around personalised and inclusive healthcare.

To identify the sensory, communication and behavioural factors that may affect attendance, engagement and treatment acceptance in neurodivergent patients, supporting the delivery of patient-centred care.

To recognise the barriers to accessing dental services faced by neurodivergent individuals and their families, contributing to the reduction of oral health inequalities and improved access to care.

Objectives

To discuss some top tips for preparation of the environment and helping manage patient care

Learning outcomes

To safely support the planning and delivery of dental care for neurodivergent patients through reasonable adjustments, effective communication and environmental adaptations, aligning with NHS priorities around prevention, accessibility and complex care pathways.
