Aims

1. Audit to ascertain secondary care orthodontic patients’ ease of access to local dental care.

2. Audit to ascertain the level and documentation of periodontal health assessments for orthodontic patients.

3. Audit to discuss the waiting times for ortho-oral surgery patients and methods to improve this

4. Critical appraisal of a paper looking at the effectiveness of BAMP in managing class 3 occlusions.

5. Discussion of future regional audits

6. Discussion of a complex orthodontic case.

7. Learning about the aetiology and management of Class 3 cases.

8. To learn about the uses and indications for dental monitoring

Objectives

1. To discuss the principles of clinical audit and its application to determining secondary care orthodontic patients’ ease of access to local dental care and the type/form of BPE examinations being carried out by orthodontists.

2. To discuss an audit looking at waiting times for orthodontic-oral surgery patients and discuss how we can improve patient pathways between departments.

3. To discuss the principles of critical appraisal and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of a paper.

4. To discuss a potentially new regional audit looking at the pathway for patients requiring a combination of dentoalveolar surgery and orthodontics.

5. Discuss the aetiology of class III malocclusions.

6. Understand treatment modalities for Class III malocclusion.

7. Understand the importance of timing for treatment in Class III cases
