Deepak Simkhada, BSc MSc PGCE FCGDent FSET

Dental Therapist , Principal Tutor – Perio With Deepak

Deepak is a dental therapist who obtained his BSc in Oral Health from the University of Dundee in 2007, followed by the completion of an MSc in Advanced Periodontal Practice from the University of Essex in 2018. On the 18th of January 2023, Deepak was awarded the Fellowship of CGDent (UK); a mark of commitment and excellence in practice, by the College Of General Dentistry, Dr Abhi Pal. His expertise lies in effectively addressing complex periodontal issues in primary care settings through non-surgical periodontal treatments. He has been running perio courses aimed at dentists, dental therapists and hygienists for last 10 years.

Aims

Outline how to diagnose, treatment plan and execute NSPT to achieve good results in primary care settings while following a good team based protocol.

Objectives

Outline current understanding of the aetiology, progression and treatment of periodontal disease

Discuss BSP guidelines and its component applicable to practicing DHT.

Discuss Periodontal Classification (2017) - world classification and BSP Classification.

Explain steps of new S3 treatment guidelines from BSP (2021).

Learning outcomes

Describe how to assess the patients in detail, perform necessary examinations (within your own scope of practice) and be able to make right diagnosis.

Classify and diagnose periodontal disease following 2017 Periodontal Classification System.

Recognise the need to monitor and review treatment outcomes (following BSP guidelines)
