Aims

The session will equip you with strategies for safely and professionally handling aggressive patients, whilst remaining calm.

To Identify areas of risk for dental professionals including;

Complaints , Claims, And Regulatory matters.  

To look at risk management techniques to assist in mitigating these risks.

To consider how to create working environments which promote inclusion and belonging

To enable course participants to understand the opportunities to develop and utilise mentoring skills

Objectives

You will learn to understand the different types of aggression and what triggers these

You will be shown how to prevent escalation using clear communication, empathy and understanding

We’ll show you the protocols on how to handle an escalating situation and how to exit in the event of danger

 

Participants will better understand the current dento-legal risk issues

Will better understand ways of mitigating these risks including

managing patient expectations

good communication

consent

complaints handling

By the end of this session it is expected you will have

increased your understanding of EDI

increased knowledge of the benefits of embedding inclusive practices

increased awareness of approaches to foster inclusion and belonging within teams

How mentoring can be used in a range of leadership and clinical situations

How mentoring fits into the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan

Supervision opportunities to support colleagues

Identifying training and development needs

This session is designed to improve your ability to handle aggressive patients, recover and learn from the events too.

The participants will appreciate the importance of good communication and managing patients’ expectations. They will appreciate the current dento-legal issues and how they impact on their professional practice.
