DescriptionThis evening is entirely devoted to Dental Nurses and Student Dental Nurses. These monthly meetings have been set up for Dental Nurses in the south region (Ox/Bucks/Berks/Hamps/I.O.W) to aid networking, sharing ideas through open discussion, support wellbeing and empower Dental Nurses to progress and further their career if they wish to do so. This will be delivered via MS Teams Webinar. There will be an hour's CPD, following this will be an open forum and peer review discussion chaired by our guest speaker Nicola Rogers and the facilitating Tutor. This CPD course meets the criteria for the GDC’s development outcomes A, B, C and D.
Additional information

Nikki teaches Dental Nurses at Bristol Dental Hospital within the School for Dental Nurse Education. In the past she was the Chair for the NEBDN Radiography Committee, and a member of the NEBDN panel of examiners running many courses to enhance Dental Nurses knowledge and skills with many programmes leading to NEBDN qualifications. She is the author of several text books for dental nurses, which include conscious sedation, maxillofacial surgery and a questions and answers book for post registration courses. On a personal level she goes to the gym and adores spending time with her family and in particular her 2 Grand-children who keep her immensely busy and active.

*This webinar is suitable for Dental Nurses and Trainee Dental Nurses, will be delivered via MS Teams platform and an email with joining instructions at least 24 hours before the course starts. Please log in early to check your IT supports MS Teams and check that your microphone is off but your camera is on (you can upload a background of your choice for privacy) signing in using your Deanery registered name helps us to confirm your attendance. Logging onto to Webinar will be from 18:15. You may be kept in the 'waiting room' until course starts at 18:30 Please email the organising Tutor if you have any questions prior to the webinar at amanda.evans37@nhs.net.There will be an opportunity to ask questions/interact with the speaker and facilitating tutor in the Forum at the end. Aims

The forum has been set up to give dental nurses an ability to network, have support for wellbeing plus be empowered to progress and further their career.

To provide a theoretical session introducing delegates to conscious sedation in dentistry.

Objectives

At the end of the course the delegates should be able to:

Have basic knowledge of the current legislation associated with dental sedation.

Understand the patient selection and pathway when patients receive intravenous, inhalation and oral sedation understanding the role of the sedation nurse within each.

Understand the importance of monitoring patients during sedation.

Learning outcomes

This course is intended to create an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a sedation nurse along with why patients are provided with a form of conscious sedation to enable them to accept dental treatment.
