MSc in Minimal Intervention Dentistry, RDT RDH, FAETC.

Doctoral researcher in Oral Health, University Of Lincoln.

Amanda is a dental therapist and doctoral student at the University of Lincoln.

She is a BADT past president and trainer and has worked for HEE as a DCP tutor in Midlands and East.

She works part-time for Bupa in Stamford, Lincolnshire.

Aims

To understand the concepts of Minimal Intervention Oral Care (MIOC) for utilisation in primary care dental practice.

Objectives

Outline the current MIOC philosophy.

Describe MIOC assessment techniques- including the ICCMS caries classification.

Identify dental materials for selection in MIOC caries management and outline and demonstrate early intervention techniques including optimal GIC sealant placement, dressings and intermediate restorations, by using case studies.

Learning outcomes

Delegates will be able to describe the concepts of MIOC assessment techniques.

Delegates will be able to identify the properties of different dental materials and selection criteria for use in practice.

Delegates will be able to develop MIOC preventive therapy techniques, including optimal GIC and composite resin sealant placement, dressings and intermediate restorations for use in primary care dental practice.
