DescriptionThe course is a hands on day to improve outcomes in the treatment planning and execution of veneer cases, through consideration of current evidence and the use of appropriate materials.

Mr Neil Nathwani has recently been appointed as an Associate Clinical Professor in restorative dentistry at the Eastman Dental Institute. He is the Deputy Programme Director of the Restorative Dental Practice MSc at the Eastman for the last 7 years.

Neil graduated from Guy's, King's and St Thomas Hospital with his BDS degree and several awards.

Neil has worked in both NHS and private practice for the last 16 years and currently works in specialist practices where he accepts referrals from general dental practitioner. He has been a specialist clinical tutor at Guys and St Thomas hospital for 3 years prior to his current UCL Eastman post. Neil played an active role in teaching both undergraduates and postgraduates. Neil currently teaches postgraduates on the MSc course as well as other short courses.

The aim of this course is to improve outcomes in the treatment planning and execution of veneer cases, through consideration of current evidence and the use of appropriate materials.

Objectives

Discuss the clinical and aesthetic consideration and application of veneers

Explain the role of diagnostic wax ups

Describe the merits and disadvantages of treatment options

Discuss the protocols for preparation, temporisation and definitive cementation

Practise the practical aspects of restorations - tooth preparations

Learning outcomes: By the end of the course, attendees should be able to

-assess and diagnose simple and complex cases suitable for porcelain veneers

- communicate choices to patients and offer advice on alternatives

-differentiate cases which require active restorative intervention from those where prevention and monitoring is more appropriate

-be able to carry out veneer preparations on models
